課程概述

This course aims to familiarize students with advanced English used on and off
campus. Students will be reading a selection of newspaper articles, short
articles, and poems to enhance reading comprehension and build up vocabulary.

課程目標
Two hours per week will be used for listening practices through which students
will be acquainted with spoken English in various accents and on different
topics. Students will be encouraged to participate in class discussion, using
internet resources to improve English at home. One to two hours per week to
work on aural assignments will be the requirement. After all, students are
expected to become an active learner of the English language.
課程要求
1. Three absences without asking for leave (by email) will result in your
failure of this course.
2. DON’T be late for classes (eg. the Wednesday morning one), and roll calls
(點名) may begin once the class starts. Three delays will cause a deduction of
5 points in your general grade. So be warned! It is because your late coming
into the classroom may disturb your classmates while they are doing listening
practices.
3. Late assignment is STRONGLY discouraged and will incur a deduction of your
grade, unless under extenuating circumstances. (Being busy with other courses
cannot be an excuse.) Most assignments can be found and printed out from Ceiba.
4. Each group (of 2-3 persons) will be responsible for 1) making vocabulary
lists and uploading to [作業區] –[作業觀摩] on Ceiba; 2) summarizing the
reading of the short stories; 3) sharing your thoughts with the class.
5. You are warmly welcome to recommend listening websites on Ceiba’s [資源分
享]區, or share your ideas on [討論看板]. The instructor may not respond to
all messages, while you may earn more points by being an active participant
and learner.
6. The instructor may occasionally grade your in-class note-taking exercises.
7. If you found any problems or inconsistencies in this syllabus, feel free to
let the instructor know.
